"It's a two way relationship with your pup and CJ's approach improves owner-pet communication while also emphasizing how to hone in on feedback."
google-logo-vector-graphic-pixabay-15.png
We wouldn't have the relationship we do with our dog without CJ's support, hands down. Growing up with dogs does not mean that you know how to train and manage your own, I learned that over several frustrating months prior to finding CJ. In our weeks with CJ we received training as much as our dog did. He started with the very basics of what it means to have a dog in the house and that it's okay, in fact vital, to establish healthy boundaries. CJ was so generous with his time, we could tell he honestly wanted us to succeed. It's a two way relationship with your pup and CJ's approach improves owner-pet communication while also emphasizing how to hone in on feedback. CJ equipped us with confidence and tools for problem solving future challenges - thank you Intelligent K9!

"Easily the BEST investment we have made for our dog!"

Easily the BEST investment we have made for our dog! For anyone that is considering Intelligent K9, do yourself and your pup a favor and schedule a consultation with CJ. His knowledge and experience with training dogs is invaluable and absolutely helped us train our dog the right way. In terms of dog training equipment, he has it all and has a very expansive knowledge with each piece of equipment such as: Prong Collar, E-Collar, etc. I was not a fan of these training tools at first BUT with time I learned the value in using it and most importantly how to utilize it correctly.

"He helps you really understand how to communicate with your dog and how to create the lifestyle for you and your dog that you want."
google-logo-vector-graphic-pixabay-15.png
My husband and I got an 8 week working line old German Shepherd Dog. The dog of my dreams. I began self training him and had successfully, or so I thought, mastered the basic commands. However, by the time he was 14 weeks old he had become more like the dog of my nightmares. He was viciously barking, lunging, and baring his teeth at everyone, including other dogs. He started pulling and zigzagging on his lead and was not respecting boundaries at all. At this point, I knew I needed professional help but I had to find the right trainer. After countless hours of internet searching and 3 seperate consultations with 3 different trainers, each at $100.00 per hour, I found that Intelligent K9 had the highest ratings. We set up a phone consultation with CJ, who, with 15 years of training experience, was very knowledgeable and professional. He offered a board and train option, or private sessions. Because I really wanted to build a strong and special bond with my dog, and I wanted to know exactly how to train him throughout his lifetime, I wanted the private sessions. I'm so glad we took this option. When we arrived at our first session we were able to chat with CJ a bit more before jumping right into training. This was an excellent opportunity for CJ to see 1st hand what we were dealing with. I was very impressed with CJ's ability to work calmly with my dog, who was doing his best to bite CJ. During this session CJ really took the time to thoroughly explain to us how to communicate with our dog through the use of training tools, and the importance of leadership and consistency, which we had been lacking. We left this session feeling confident that we could do this! We headed home to begin our homework. Things seemed to be going well, but I began having reservations with using a prong collar on my dog. I decided to text CJ. He was very understanding and did not pressure me. Instead, he worked with me through my fears and was very kind in doing so. As we continued our private sessions, we began to see massive improvements in our dog's behavior, and our own leadership skills! Not only is our dog no longer chewing under our bed, or rushing out of his crate. He quit trying to bite CJ, and he is walking on his lead without pulling and zigzagging. He is no longer lunging at people, he ignores other dogs on our walks, and he no longer rushes doorways. I have more confidence in my own ability to train my dog, and he and I are creating that special bond I really want! This was all happening much faster than I was expecting, which is awesome! At every session, CJ was fantastic to work with. Even when we had lagged in our training, he didn't make us feel bad for it. He really wants to see you and your dog succeed. He helps you really understand how to communicate with your dog and how to create the lifestyle for you and your dog that you want. I really appreciate that he is involved with you throughout the process and responded to any calls, or texts, within a reasonable time frame. It has been a great experience training with CJ at Intelligent K9 and knowing they are here for us at any time in our future should we have any set backs, is a comforting feeling. Thank you, CJ! Training with you has made Echo the dog of my dreams again, not my nightmares! I have gained leadership skills I didn't know I had, and life with Echo is becoming everything that I had hoped it would be. I HIGHLY recommend private sessions with Intelligent K9 to anyone who is looking for a reputable, professional, knowledgeable trainer and an overall great training experience. Thanks again, CJ! Rhonda and Echo😁🐶

Very happy with our results. We simply wanted a more mild mannered dog and we got that and so much more. CJ's training techniques work and can easily be applied to new situations once you and your dog get the basics down. Highly recommend.

"Our lives at home with Tsarina have been transformed. Our household energy level is pleasant, our walks are comfortable and easy, and I can just love and enjoy her. "
google-logo-vector-graphic-pixabay-15.png
Hi, I’m Kelley and 2 years ago I adopted a 1-year-old deaf Dalmatian named Tsarina. She had been surrendered to a shelter because her high energy level was too much for her family. She came to me gorgeous but wild, having no boundaries, jumping, puppy biting, and racing around the house like a bull in a china shop. Determined to transform her into a wonderful companion I watched videos, did treat training, used a variety of “no pull” collars and harnesses, and purchased an e-collar to “call her" and direct her focus to my hand signals. We formed a close emotional bond, and I made progress, but after a year I became increasingly frustrated that my efforts were only taking me so far. Tsarina’s willpower and physical strength took over when in highly stimulating environments. On our walks she still pulled, was reactive to other dogs, and in the house, I still longed for a calmer energy. She was not yet the go anywhere with me sidekick that I’d dreamed of. Finally, I entertained getting some professional help and set up a consultation with CJ of Intelligent K-9 Dog Training. CJ was totally familiar with the struggles I described and reflected back to me the truth of my situation, that I was exhausted putting out all the effort while Tsarina had none of the responsibility and that I needed our relationship to be more FUN! We began our training journey and CJ was an excellent teacher. He was approachable, enthusiastic, and supportive, making our training sessions a real pleasure. His training techniques were understandable, logical, humane, and yielded the exact results that he said they would. Once I understood how to implement the techniques, I could apply them to any goal I had, with Tsarina participating and taking some responsibility in our partnership. Positive change became easy and predictable. Having completed the 49-day program I am still enjoying program benefits. I have attended group outings and CJ checks in, reminding me that he is a lifetime resource for us. I am really amazed and feel fortunate to have chosen the right person to help me. If you are considering professional dog training, stop waiting. There is too much relief and fun to be had. Our lives at home with Tsarina have been transformed. Our household energy level is pleasant, our walks are comfortable and easy, and I can just love and enjoy her. Beyond that, I am THAT girl - the one taking her dog to cafés and wineries and festivals, to family gatherings, and having off leash fun. Tsarina and I have exactly what I dreamed of when I got her. I can take her anywhere with me and she lays quietly at my feet, gazing up at me with love and I’m thinking “Right back at you, sweetie girl.” Thank you so much CJ – Intelligent K9 Dog Training!!!

"Our dogs obey our commands. We can let them run around in our yard off leash with no problems."
google-logo-vector-graphic-pixabay-15.png
Before coming to CJ, our family had 2 crazy boxers. We knew they’d be high energy, but as they grew it was so difficult for me to walk them by myself. They would often drag me, fight each other, and if they saw another dog…forget it. It was really embarrassing. Inside the house they’d often wrestle, jump on our couches (I was constantly cleaning the dog smell out), run around, jump on the counter to get food, it was crazy. I couldn’t manage on my own, so we sought out a trainer. At first we wanted to board and train. But after talking to CJ, we realized that wouldn’t benefit us as we wouldn’t be apart of the process or understand WHY things happen or the philosophy behind the mentality of our dogs. We finished all 7 sessions. I have to say by session 4 so much had drastically changed for the better. By the last session our life is completely different. Our dogs obey our commands. We can let them run around in our yard off leash with no problems. They stay in one spot when we ask them to, even during meal times. They no longer go after other dogs, get on our couches, wrestle in the house, none of it. They know our rules, standards, and boundaries. We are at the point where we can take them anywhere and they are fine. Thanks CJ for taking us on and helping integrate our pups into our life!

"The improvements are endless and I would not have believed the level we have gotten to before we started this training."
google-logo-vector-graphic-pixabay-15.png
I started with a 9 month old German Shepard puppy. I am the third (last) owner. I quickly understood why. I needed help. Wolfie was easily excited and very reactive to anything including people, children, or other animals. Wolfie would charge out the door, pull on the leash while walking. He would pull so hard he would walk on his hind legs and bark excessively if another dog was around. Wolfie would not listen or was unable to recall. He would not sit or lay down unless it involved a treat. He would nip or mouth while trying to put on a leash. Me and my family were frustrated and not sure what to do. That's where intelligent k9 and CJ come in. I considered three trainers in the richmond area. I spoke with CJ and after our consultation, I felt comfortable with my choice. I appreciated the one on training and undivided attention. It is a great location to train and allows you to work through real life situations.. The instructions are very clear and CJ was there to walk you through each step. Wolfie has become a great part of our family. We are able to walk side by side with no pulling, no barking. He has become patient in walking out the door and is well mannered waiting for me to walk out and sits while I close and lock the door. He listens to recalls immediately and returns quickly. I am able to send wolfie to a place or kennel from distance. I am able to place wolfie and walk away to answer the front door. Im not sure I can give enough credit here to what we've accomplished. The improvements are endless and I would not have believed the level we have gotten to before we started this training. I highly recommend CJ

"Shockingly, we were pleased with Maisy's progress after just one session so I couldn't imagine what 6 more sessions would do for us."
google-logo-vector-graphic-pixabay-15.png
Without a doubt, I recommend Intelligent K9 dog training because it helped us have the dog that we dreamt of having. Maisy is a Mini Aussie Doodle that we got when she was 13 weeks old. We tried for months to correct bad habits ourselves, but we finally had enough when she was about 7 months old. We thought about rehoming her, but that just didn't sit right with us. House training was a major problem, barking in the middle of the night caused so many sleepless nights, and not following any of our commands was very frustrating. CJ changed all of this for us with just 7 sessions. Shockingly, we were pleased with Maisy's progress after just one session so I couldn't imagine what 6 more sessions would do for us. We now have a professionally trained 10 month old puppy that we enjoy and adore as a part of our family. Maisy is the companion that I needed and was looking for all this time, we both just needed professional dog training. Get with CJ and all your doggy troubles will go away just like ours did.

"He was calm and performing the commands without any fuss. It was like a totally different dog."
google-logo-vector-graphic-pixabay-15.png
Logan is a 3-year old BMC and Catahoula mix who was very dog and people reactive. When we had our consultation with CJ, Logan would not sit still. He was whiny and pacing back and forth. In our first class, I was worried that he was going to act up and not listen. But by the end of the first session, he was calm and performing the commands without any fuss. It was like a totally different dog. I’m so thankful for the guidance I received from CJ. What I’ve gained is to be a good leader, have clearer communication, and set boundaries to help Logan become the dog that I envisioned. I would recommend CJ to anyone who needs help achieving whatever goal they have with their dog.

"He is like a completely different dog, and we are only halfway through the training program. 100%, CJ is an incredible trainer, and I will recommend him to anyone!"
google-logo-vector-graphic-pixabay-15.png
My husband and I adopted a dog from the SPCA last summer, and he came to us with anxiety, stranger and dog aggression. Jethro barked at everything that moved, and would pull me out of my wheelchair if he saw another person or dog when I took him out for walks. In 3 weeks, Jethro has stopped barking at other dogs/people, and he listens to our directions like an Angel! He is like a completely different dog, and we are only halfway through the training program. 100%, CJ is an incredible trainer, and I will recommend him to anyone!

"We got with CJ and now we have the perfect dog within a few months. He has done a full 180 from when we got him and is a calm and happy dog now. "
google-logo-vector-graphic-pixabay-15.png
I can't say enough about how great CJ is! We adopted a Pitbull from the shelter and was ready to bring him back after a few months because we were lost as to what to do (I have owned a Pit before but not like this one). He had separation anxiety, would get aggressive if we tried to play with him, was destructive in the house, acted dog aggressive and dragged us every where. We were in over our heads. We got with CJ and now we have the perfect dog within a few months. He has done a full 180 from when we got him and is a calm and happy dog now. We are so thankful and love our dog to pieces! CJ taught us how to communicate with him and how to handle him with all his issues. CJ really tailored the training program to meet all of our dogs specific needs and trained us on what we needed to do. CJ is amazing and we highly recommend him! So don't give up on your dog or suffer with misbehavior just call CJ!
